A Slice Of Berkel Slicers History

Hunger for improvement and reliance on values have led to today’s globally recognized Berkel meat slicers and other machines constructed from the past and future. Berkel’s completely artisanal production methods have reflected in its image. The unique RED color in the Berkel logo is not just an expression of beauty and passion. The famous Berkel RED also embodies the brand’s key values handed down from the past and fed into the present rich legacy.

Therefore, if you are using a red Berkel meat slicer, you can be sure that you have three assets: Reliability, Elegance, and Durability, which read as the Berkel RED. This heritage dates back to 1898, when W.A. Van Berkel started searching for a novel way of slicing more meat in his butcher shop. He desired to automatize what he already did with his knife and hands. All he had was an innovative mindset and determination. The result was the world’s first meat slicing machines.

By 1907, Berkel meat slicers had gained popularity in various parts of the world, including England, Mexico, China, and Canada. Thus, Van Berkel not only added value to his butcher shop but also revolutionized such food prepping tasks as slicing, processing, and packaging. A firm reliance on this myth guaranteed quality. And the pursuit of perfection ensured ease of use and efficiency inscribed in Berkel commercial meat slicers, food processors, vacuum packaging machines, bread slicers, and other equipment. Today, Berkel operates as a member of the ITW Food Equipment Group.
