Commercial Flower Coolers

Floral & flower coolers are specialized merchandising refrigeration systems engineered to store and display delicate cut flowers under ideal environmental conditions. They preserve freshness by maintaining precise temperature and humidity ranges that slow respiration and prevent dehydration. Florists, grocery floral departments, and retail displays buy floral coolers to keep flowers fresh and appealing.

How Do the Flower Coolers Keep the Flowers Fresh?

Flower coolers keep flowers fresh by maintaining stable conditions that replicate natural freshness. These systems use precise temperature control between 34°F (1.1°C) and 38°F (3.3°C) along with 80–90% humidity to slow respiration and minimize moisture loss. Gentle, low-velocity airflow prevents bruising of petals. Sealed glass doors and insulation ensure consistent cooling and humidity levels, extending shelf life.

The temperature ranges and humidity levels are standard in the floral & flower coolers available on the market. The differences lie in size, compressor power, door style, interior design, and energy efficiency. Compare these features carefully when buying a floral refrigerator for your business.

Considerations for Buying a Floral Refrigerator

Choosing a floral refrigerator depends on space, capacity, and display priorities. Factors such as size, compressor design, and special features affect airflow balance, energy use, and product visibility, thereby optimizing flower refrigeration performance.

Size: Small floral & flower coolers have one section in widths ranging from 24 in (60.96 cm) to 27 in (68.58 cm). They are ideal for boutique florists. The 2-section models are 54 in (137.16 cm) to 70 in (177.8 cm) wide. Supermarkets and flower wholesalers can benefit from the 3-section, large floral & flower coolers, measuring around 78 in (198.12 cm).
Compressor Location: Top-mounted compressors improve heat dissipation and prevent dust buildup. They are ideal for warm or crowded spaces. Bottom-mounted compressors offer easier service access and better efficiency in moderate ambient temperatures.
Doors: Swinging glass doors feature self-closing seals to retain cold air. Sliding glass doors conserve aisle space and maximize product viewing. Open-air flower display coolers enhance customer access but consume more energy.
Compressor HP: Compressor horsepower determines cooling power. Single-door units typically use 1/3 HP compressors. Double and triple-door flower refrigeration models use 1/2 HP compressors for larger capacities.
Special Features: Adjustable PVC-coated shelves accommodate bouquets of varying heights, while LED lighting enhances color without generating heat. High-efficiency insulation, digital thermostats, and self-evaporating trays simplify operation. Exterior finishes such as vinyl or stainless steel strengthen durability, and mirrored or glass panels boost merchandising appeal.
Number of Shelves: Flower shop coolers include 3 to 5 adjustable tiers. Proper spacing ensures air distribution and maintains consistent temperature and humidity around every bouquet.
Certifications: Most floral coolers are NSF-listed, UL-approved, and EISA-compliant, guaranteeing efficient operation and regulatory compliance. Energy Star-rated models promise higher efficiency. Prefer units with a Made-in-America label for a reliable, long-lasting performance.
