Frost Top and Cold Slab Units

Frost Top and Cold Slab Units for Commercial Kitchens

Frost Top and Cold Slab Units are chilled food prep and presentation equipment designed for restaurants, bars, cafés, and ice cream shops that require precise temperature control, attractive presentation, and efficient service. Frost Top and Cold Slab Units bring refrigerated display surfaces built with cold plates that maintain near-freezing temperatures across a flat stainless steel surface. So, they enable buffet operators to keep and showcase cold dishes, desserts, pre-chilled beverages, snacks, hors d'oeuvres, and side dishes chilled without ice.

At Chef's Deal, we offer commercial-grade Cold Shelves, Frost Top, and Cold Slab Units engineered for durability, performance, and long-term reliability.

• Cold Shelves: Featuring a long, flat surface for holding and displaying items, cold shelves are ideal for use in restaurant and café buffets to promote pre-packaged or plated snacks, appetizers, side dishes, and bottled drinks. They are available in various lengths, from 35 to 51 inches (88.9 cm to 129.54 cm), and in built-in, drop-in, and undermount models.
• Frost Top Units: Engineered to offer a lower temperature than the cold shelves, frost tops retain a thin layer of frost at the surface. They are primarily used to display pre-packaged foods, plated fruits, or fish. You can find compact options at 21 inches (53.34 cm), while there are much longer options up to 81 inches (205.75 cm).
• Cold Slab Units: Cold slabs have stone, granite, or marble surfaces for mixing toppings, shaping ice cream, or preparing ice cream recipes. They feature a very cold slap to preserve the ice cream texture, making them ideal for ice cream shops. They range from 31 to 73 inches (78.74 cm to 185.42 cm) to accommodate small to large applications.

Why Restaurants and Ice Cream Shops Need Frost Top and Cold Slab Units?

• Consistent Temperature: Frost tops and cold slabs use commercial-grade compressors to maintain optimal temperatures, typically between 28°F and 40°F (-2°C and 4°C).
• Durable Construction: These commercial refrigeration units feature stainless steel construction to ensure longer service life under rigorous conditions
• Even cooling: Digital thermostats and heavy-duty compressors ensure even cooling across the entire surface.
• Food Safety Compliance: Most frost tops and cold slabs are NSF-certified to ensure a safe surface for food contact.
• Streamlined Foodservice and Preparation: Cold shelves and frost tops provide an easy-to-reach self-service area. So customers can easily grab and move forward without causing a queue.
• Professional Presentation: Cold plates create an attractive food presentation surface while preventing melting, preserving textures, and keeping dishes visually appealing longer.

Key Features to Look for When Buying Frost Top and Cold Slab Units

• Surface Material: Cold slabs, frost tops, and cold shelves are available mostly with 304 stainless steel top surfaces for durability and corrosion resistance. But cold slabs are also common with polished granite and stone tops.
• Insulation: Choosing better-insulated units with high-density polyurethane foam insulation helps maintain consistent temperatures and improves energy efficiency.
• Refrigeration System: Frost-top and cold-slab units are available with self-contained compressors, offering easier installation and remote refrigeration for quieter operation.
• Installation type: Built-in and drop-in frost tops, cold shelves, and cold slabs offer flush installation in your buffet or counter.
